So, Thursday night, I pranced around the blog and throughout my entire house, because I became the Domestic Goddess all because of the success of scones. I felt so liberated, that I decided to try cake balls.
I have tried cake balls before. It failed. Miserably. It was sad. People refused to eat them. And I shook my fist at those 6 hours of wasted time.
But that didn't stop me on Saturday. On Saturday, I "forgot" the pain and agony of laboring all afternoon over the dream of cake balls. I spent over 7 hours (again) making cake balls. Unlike my first time, it was a success. And I don't even know how it happened. Now, there are cake balls coming out of my ears. Out of my refrigerator. Out of my freezer. And, believe me...they are NOT welcomed to stay in our home.
These were confetti cake covered in white chocolate.
Chocolate cake with semi-dark chocolate.
Ya'll, while I'm proud of my success in making them, I am exhausted. If you decide to make cake balls, TAKE MY ADVICE: Block out 6+ hours of time, TAKE YOUR TIME. For real!!! Don't rush melting the chocolate, make sure you have plenty of wax paper, have an abundance of sprinkles and when you are finished - throw those cake balls in the 'fridge!
Well, after a very full cake-filled weekend, I'm signing off. If you make cake balls, let me know!!
1. So, right now, I'm in the middle of my Bachelorette obsession. I'm particularly excited about this season because Ali from the Bachelor IS the Bachelorette. Ben hates her, but I love her. I guess that means she can't come to dinner. Bummer. Anyway... to anyone who hasn't watched the Bachelorette, THIS season is hysterical! Don't believe me? PLEASE check out this little clip of a guy who wanted to "show his love" so much...he got a tattoo to prove it.
2. Last week, Ben and I got into a big ole' *cough, cough* "discussion" ( our pre-marital counselor and she HATED the word argument). Words were hurled out of anger, tears streamed, forgiveness was sought and in the end, love won. Marriage has its ups and downs, but we are learning to work it out and be better. For each other. For our commitment to each other.
3. In light of the above mentionables (please refer to 1 and 2...AND yes! I did JUST make up a word): Ben gave me roses. On Monday, Ben celebrated my love for the Bachelorette AND celebrated us by saying, "Will you accept this rose?" Of course I said, YES. To. All. THREE. ROSES.
4. My favorite salad addition is this scrumptious combination: 1 vidalia onion, 1 green paper, 1 cucumber, all chopped up. Pour white vinegar, sprinkle generously with salt and pepper, refrigerate. Then enjoy. Let me tell you...its DEFINITELY worth crying over the onion for.
5. If you have some time to waste...or to be inspired. Whichever you prefer, I STRONGLY encourage you to check out the Parade of Homes on Poppies at Play.
6. This number signifies that Ben and I celebrated 6 MONTHS of Marriage on Saturday. Its been great. Ben makes my life better. Fuller. Richer. I love him.
A couple of weeks ago, I landed smack-dab in the middle of an intense grieving session. It was heartbreaking. And, you may remember it: my final goodbye to milk products.
In all truth, the main source of my grief was Starbucks. They serve powder based frappuccinos and lattes, so no matter if you get soy milk, you (i.e., me) will still get sick.
Until now. They are NOW serving "However-you-want-it" frappuccinos. When the lady told me that the powder based mixes are GONE, I almost climbed over the counter and hugged her neck. But I refrained. For her sake, of course.
In light of that, I am THRILLED to announce that Starbucks is hosting a celebration! THIS WEEK ONLY! Starbucks HAPPY HOUR!
I recommend the "Extra Coffee Caramel Frappuccino" WITH Soy. But its really "However-you-want-it". Enjoy.
On Saturday, Ben and I had the opportunity to join friends for a birthday celebration. It was a lot of fun to swap stories and catch up. Our dining choice was Fox Sports Grill. I should probably preface that I'm not typically a fan of sports grill restaurants. Actually, not at all. The menu usually consists of burgers, wings and nachos, plus add in loud TVs screaming the latest sport statistic...simply put, not my type of place.
But last night, my stereotypical assumptions were challenged. We enjoyed buffalo chicken nachos as an appetizers which were not doused in cheese, but actually had great flavor. Then for dinner, I had Cajun pasta - penne pasta with crab, shrimp, and andouille sausage sauteed in a spicy mustard sauce. It was wonderful! Ben ordered a bleu cheese burger with a SIDE SALAD. I don't know what has happened to this man, but I LIKE it!!!
Aside from the incredible food (we brought home leftovers!), I really loved the fact that while there were TVs scattered all around the dining room, they never took away from the conversation.
I never thought I would say this, but I am so happy to say that I hope to return. I really enjoyed it. So, come NBA playoffs, I might just ask Ben if we can go back to the Fox Sports Grill. I mean, Ikea is just down the street and if we go there before, we could both have our cake and eat it too! ;)
